R01 success rates have been plunging at NIGMS even with applications going down. There was slight uptick in FY25 R01 applications, but this did not explain continued plunge. R01s were eaten by R35 expenditures. R35 applications did apparently go significantly up. 2/
When I look at this the thought that comes to mind (given the R35s) is "except for whatever R15s are getting, this is a concentration of wealth (big labs get more) like we see in other fiscal aspects of society". Would that be a wrong interpretation?
