Trump also reportedly denied Israel’s request to view the memorandum of understanding that his administration negotiated with Iran until it was already a fait accompli. Desperate for a deal to wind down his ill-conceived war, the president effectively offered Israeli concessions to his Iranian interlocutors.
For his sins, he has now agreed to a peace framework that the entire world understands is a defeat for him. It is a setback for America, too.
All these problems remain, and Iran is still weaker than it was three years ago. But the war has given it leverage it did not have when 2026 began. Its regime has demonstrated that it can survive waves of attacks from its two biggest enemies. Its leaders have not had to abandon their nuclear ambitions. And they have learned that the rest of the world seems unwilling to use military force to reopen the Strait of Hormuz. If Iran chooses to close the strait at some point in the coming months or years, what will Mr. Trump do in response?

Mr. Ross sold a steel company to Mr. Mittal’s firm and served on ArcelorMittal’s board of directors until he was confirmed as commerce secretary.
Two days after the remarks, the White House issued a lengthy and legalistic proclamation with a provision that would benefit ArcelorMittal. The document made various adjustments to tariffs on trucks, buses and auto parts. The proclamation contained a provision authorizing Howard Lutnick, the commerce secretary, to reduce by up to half the tariffs for aluminum or steel producers that operate facilities in Canada or Mexico and supply U.S. makers of cars or trucks. The adjustments would be limited to quantities of aluminum or steel “equal to newly committed United States production capacity, as determined by the secretary,” the document said. ArcelorMittal makes automotive steel in Canada that is exported to the United States. The company also committed last year to expanding a facility in Alabama, which could help it qualify for the provision.

They are the foundations of civilian life in Iran, and their destruction by American and Israeli forces would cause widespread suffering among the country's 93 million people - and in most cases would be considered a warm crime under international law. Yet President Trump has repeatedly threatened to do exactly that, with the aim of sending Iran "back to the Stone Ages, where they belong," as he put in a speech on Wednesday.

Two teenage brothers and mariachi stars who visited the White House last summer were released with their family on Monday from ICE detention centers in South Texas, immediately following the visit of a delegation of Democratic lawmakers who pressed for them to be freed. The case had drawn national outrage, and Representative Joaquin Castro of Texas, who led the delegation, had been working to secure their release since the family was detained over a week ago.
Naqvi's sister says law enforcement lied to them. "We were told that she wasn’t here we saw her location on in the middle of the facility, we saw her location in Wisconsin in the middle of the facility," she said. "The cops were lying to our faces. They were saying we were asking them, 'hey her location was here, we were in contact with her,' and they’d say ‘we don’t know what to tell you.'"

In a statement, Paul Weiss said, “Mr. Karp attended two group dinners in New York City and had a small number of social interactions by email, all of which he regrets.”

In 2018, they exchanged emails that appear to discuss them joining forces to battle construction plans by The Frick Collection, a museum across the street from both of their homes.
The documents suggest the visit did occur. The gathering was set for Dec. 23, 2012. A day later, an assistant to Mr. Epstein forwarded Mr. Lutnick a message from Mr. Epstein: “Nice seeing you,” it said. In a podcast interview last year, Mr. Lutnick claimed that around 2005, he and his wife had been so revolted by Mr. Epstein that they decided not to associate with him again.
Prominent people who were close to Mr. Epstein have been scrutinized in recent years for their visits to Little St. James, but Mr. Lutnick’s planned visit had not been previously disclosed. Reached by phone on Friday, Mr. Lutnick said he could not comment about the island visit because he had not seen the latest Epstein documents. “I spent zero time with him,” Mr. Lutnick said. He then hung up.
Lutnick sent an email to Mr. Epstein saying that he had a group of people — including his wife and children and another family — who were visiting the Caribbean. He asked where Mr. Epstein was located and whether they could visit for a meal. Mr. Epstein replied through an assistant to give more information about the location of Little St. James, his private island off the coast of St. Thomas in the U.S. Virgin Islands. They eventually settled on plans for a lunch gathering.
