Ideal for: Artists, curators, or historians Ongoing, participatory formats Layered, plural storytelling Examples: A physical space where participants leave notes, images, objects that explore applications of disaster studies A podcast of oral histories contributed by participants An evolving zine built across the day Leading a wikithon (with tea and cake for energy) to ensure against trans+ academic and artist erasure and increase representation!
Fugitive Teach-ins (60-90 MINS) 🌾 Fugitive Teach-ins reclaim learning as communal, resistant, and situated beyond the institution. Ideal for: Activist educators Community organisers Peer learning or mutual aid framings Examples: A collaborative teach-in on anti-trans legislation and collective responses - for all to engage with (including passers-by) Feeding ducks at a pond while resource-sharing and storytelling A “kitchen-table” session where everyone brings a necessary question that challenges institutional practice (i.e the exploitation of REF research at the expense of the - temporarily contracted - intersectional queer academics)
Haptic Lectures (30 mins) 👐 Haptic Lectures invite participants to feel ideas through touch, movement, or other sensory modes. Ideal for: Practice-based researchers Those working with textiles, gesture, movement Anyone resisting language as the only mode of knowledge Examples: A quilting workshop using fabric to trace queer grief or queer hope An improvised movement lecture with no words underpinned by an exploration of disability studies Passing around objects to tell a story collectively
Peripatetic Walks (60-90 mins) 🚶 Peripatetic Walks are roaming sessions that think through movement, environment, and embodied presence. Ideal for: Site-based artists or site-responsive researchers or socio-archeologists Embodied inquiry, somatic research and philosophy Challenging static, seated academic modes Examples: A meditative walk with spoken provocations along the way exploring embodied phenomenological experience A collaborative tour of historical sites of oppression, followed by sharing An online version: each participant walks in their own setting, connected via audio, or text-based chat and live photos
Ephemeral Manifestos (30-60mins) 🔥 Ephemeral Manifestos are live declarations that exist only in their moment—spoken, written, danced, or disrupted. Ideal for: Temporary, resistant, or anti-institutional gestures Manifesting new futures together - platforming hope and change Performance-poetry meets activism Examples: A manifesto co-written live by participants on a shared screen or wall An embodiment of queer declarations, performed and then erased An acoustic group chant on the state of US treatment of trans+ bodies or an embodied score that dissolves into stillness
Unpanels (45-90 mins) 🌀 Unpanels are facilitated, non-hierarchical conversations where knowledge is co-created in the moment. Ideal for: Groups of collaborators or peers Decentralised, emergent discussions Replacing traditional speaker/audience dynamics Examples: A dialogue between artists, activists and researchers about the future of trans+ legal advocacy in the Global South A circular conversation with no designated “lead” A session where audience members are invited into the discussion early
