Any recommendations for some good ZX81 programs which are written purely in BASIC? Nothing generated by Z88DK or similar. Nothing with machine code in REM statements etc. I have been using Perilous Swamp as an example, as this is BASIC only and quite a good game, but I am looking for some more.

I spent many hours playing Hammurabi, the harbinger of the Civilization genre. Small enough to easily alter for any early machine, and shows BASIC's branching, variables, and floating point capabilities. David Ahl did a good version, not sure where to find it tho. Bump. This is a Sinclair BASIC program that was posted by SR on PI Day. I have removed multiple statement lines so it will run on a ZX81. It writes PI to 1840 places. I have output to a string which can be saved to tape with the program. It takes days so use FAST while running. Magic.

I would look at old your computer magazines at archive.org/details/your... Early ones are full of basic zx81 listings

If you're looking for programs on tape, what about Biorhythms?

If I am not mistaken, the French RPG Argolath for ZX81 is in Basic. Hopefully you can read French ;)

'Reactor' was a fairly decent type-in from Sinclair Programs: spectrumcomputing.co.uk/entry/35919/...
