Comment by Nic: This actually makes me really anxious. Don't forget that "the economy" is just a term for the huge set of interconnected production and consumption activities that distribute resources - just money and resources going from person to person - not a living, breathing, feeling thing. If the powers that be are talking about sacrificing human lives for "the economy" by sending workers back to work in a time of crisis, instead of doing something like redistributing the assets of the wealthiest citizens, they're not actually worried about the economy, they're worried about the status quo. The status quo will kill us.
