An excerpt of my unfinished reckoning with trans men’s position in relation to the world, academics, ect: Trans men are not fighting for cis men to recognize our masculinity, we know that is an useless, unwinnable, position. What we are fighting for is to have our lives valued as being worthy of what we have given up to have them. To be celebrated for what we have healed and created within all men. To be worthy. To be seen for what we are, instead of the afterimage of what we are not.
Being a man cannot remain unburdened within my breast, untested For, without a reason, what life could I hope to build That could stand for everything I have sacrificed; could change everything I fear from it? It must be weighed against my integrity, chosen and chastised, as many times is necessary To be remade and envisioned into something new. I will make men better; I am better. It is a reinvention, a returning, to a way of life that has never existed
