Clemence Debaig talks directly to camera showcasing the headsets used in Where We Meet performance. The audio is as follows: Hi my name is Clemence Debaig, one of the co-directors of Where We Meet, our interactive piece where the audience can walk around the space and hear the inner thoughts of the dancers as they get close to them. When audiences enter the space we give them a pair of headphones and a mobile phone. You will notice that there is a tracker attached to the headphones and this is how we know where everyone is in the space at any given time which allows us to broadcast the right sound and audio to each of the audience members in the space depending on how close they are to each of the characters. In return the dancers are equipped with also a phone with an interface where they can choose which inner thoughts they want to share with the audience, either to dive deeper into the character or to create moments of interaction with the audience.

The text reads: What Is XR? XR stands for “extended reality.” An umbrella term for all things virtual and augmented reality. Where We Meet uses custom technology designed by Unwired Dance Theatre to subvert traditional XR, bringing the physical and the virtual worlds together. Active participants wear headphones with a tracker attached. Motion capture and spatial audio then connects tracking data with personalised audio streams as you move around the space. The effect is as if hearing each performer’s inner thoughts.
