Rented a GPU on vast.ai yesterday. Host appeared to be US-based. Felt slow. Turned out it was a Hong Kong host proxying traffic from a US endpoint. Chinese hosts on are usually cheaper and avoided due to limited international bandwidth. And now services like @claudeai actively block Chinese access.
