Dustin @v01dworks.com · Dec 6 So I’m reading Пикник на Обочине in Russian, and it took me way too long to figure out why everyone was saying “I’m speaking” It turns out that in Russian books sometimes they put dialogue in -these- and so this is the equivalent of in English books when they write “I said” I felt real dumb 🤣

Yup, Slavic languages (at least I’m assuming all of them, since it’s the same in Polish) use em dash to go in and out of dialogues in books. So if English book had: „Well”, I said, „that’s how it is” a book here would go: — Well — I said — that’s how it is.
I don't understand why you're putting yourself through this but kudos to you. I remember really enjoying Kingdom of Crooked Mirrors which had a 3rd grade reading level or so. Its been so long tho
