fifth world of the campaign was set in a steampunk city with a plague and we set a lot of stuff on fire which is why the city is on fire behind him. John went back to his plague doctor roots for this one and I really wanted that cane in there because he stole it from another plague doctor and used it to hit things the whole game. I wanted to add all the bottles and gadgets and stuff to this but it got too complicated with the fire and lightening coming out of his hand and so I opted out This was design like, 5 and I was about to quit and not have one for this world.

Page 31 of Hellhound 9-panel page every time I have a page with a bunch of tiny Johns running around doing things it's the hardest page ever. I have like, three of these so far (in the whole comic not just what's been posted) and they all took way longer than I feel they should have Also 9-panel pages are hard. I did not like the 1-2 color thing I had going on so I moved to a still limited, but less limited palette that was functional because you could see what was happening better (that's what I tell myself anyway) 9 panels with a small version of John unbound by panel borders jumping around to avoid the ogre Panel 1: He has his shield up and the ogre is hitting it. word balloon from off-panel: John. Panel 2: John kind of flipping backwards across the panel border to avoid getting squashed by a huge fist as the ogre punches down and misses him probably by like, inches. Word balloon from off-panel: John. Panel 3: Portrait of Griffin watching the fight with an exaggerated worried look WOrd balloon: Griffin- OOOH, careful! Panel 4: John dodging across panel borders again to avoid getting hit by the ogre Word balloon from off-panel: WATCH OUT! Panel 5: another portrait of Griffin yelling Word balloon: Griffin- Almost got you that time! Panel 6: John leap-frogging over the ogre's head across the lower left corner and landing "safely" in panel 8 Word balloon: John- omigod stop! Panel 7: Griffin standing with trees in the bg word balloon: Griffin- What? I'm helping. I thought you wanted me to help? Panel 8: John's landing from his jump from panel 6 Word balloon: John- Real help! Not Helicopter-parent help! Panel 9 finally: John trying to dodge as the ogre raises both arms over his head to smash Word Balloon from off-panel: Fine. You could try using magic. That's me helping.
