Update on X's blue checkmark
Following the European Commission's Decision of 5 December 2025, we must explain the meaning of our blue checkmark and verification policies:
Premium accounts featuring the blue checkmark are not verified under identity or authenticity criteria (accounts verified based on an ID are labelled as "ID verified").
As you know, on 1 April 2023 we began winding down Twitter's legacy verification program:
Previously, to receive the blue checkmark, accounts had to be authentic, active, and deemed notable by Twitter staff (for more information on the legacy policy, please click here).
Now, following the changes implemented to democratize the platform, the blue checkmark has a different meaning and identifies accounts that have an active subscription to X Premium/X Premium+ (including services such as reply prioritization) and are complete, active, secure and non-deceptive, regardless of perceived notability.
X supports freedom of speech and does not endorse or validate the views expressed on accounts featuring checkmarks.

Fireball radius: 1.14 km (4.11 km²)
Maximum size of the nuclear fireball; relevance to damage on the ground depends on the height of detonation. If it touches the ground, the amount of radioactive fallout is significantly increased. Anything inside the fireball is effectively vaporized. Minimum burst height for negligible fallout: 0.94 km.
Radiation radius (500 rem): 2.06 km (13.3 km²)
500 rem ionizing radiation dose; likely fatal, in about 1 month; 15% of survivors will eventually die of cancer as a result of exposure.
Heavy blast damage radius (20 psi): 2.76 km (23.9 km²)
At 20 psi overpressure, heavily built concrete buildings are severely damaged or demolished; fatalities approach 100%. Often used as a benchmark for heavy damage in cities. Optimal height of burst to maximize this effect is 1,930 m.
Moderate blast damage radius (5 psi): 6.33 km (126 km²)
At 5 psi overpressure, most residential buildings collapse, injuries are universal, fatalities are widespread. The chances of a fire starting in commercial and residential damage are high, and buildings so damaged are at high risk of spreading fire. Often used as a benchmark for moderate damage in cities. Optimal height of burst to maximize this effect is 3,320 m.
Thermal radiation radius (3rd degree burns): 13.5 km (574 km²)
Third degree burns extend throughout the layers of skin, and are often painless because they destroy the pain nerves. They can cause severe scarring or disablement, and can require amputation. 100% probability for 3rd degree burns at this yield is 11.4 cal/cm².
Light blast damage radius (1 psi): 16.7 km (881 km²)
At around 1 psi overpressure, glass windows can be expected to break. This can cause many injuries in a surrounding population who comes to a window after seeing the flash of a nuclear explosion (which travels faster than the pressure wave).=
