Poorly preserved photo of Mt. Lassen, which awoke from a 27,000 year dormancy on May 30th, 1914. This is likely one of the earliest series of steam explosions that finally culminated in an explosive May 15th, 1915 eruption. More at the comment below.

This is a boulder (the size of a small boulder) that has been split by frost wedging, from the Tuolumne Meadows Campground in Yosemite, California, one of my favorite places. My profile banner picture is Tuolumne Meadows. Photo mine.
The Palmdale road cut exposes sediments twisted and folded like a Van Gogh painting. The swirls of the tans and browns catch every eye, and even the uninitiated know they’ve seen tectonics exposed.

This Norwegian rock face is made of bands of roc weirdly rippled like crumpled ribbons. The rock is cut by two vertical dikes.
