Took me some research but Alt National Park& 50501 did the calculations using the method CCC that Chenoweth researched & developed w/ Harvard Kennedy School & UCon endorse for calculating crowd numbers. My Mom displayed this in a place of honor in our home and referred to the concepts in this poem often as I grew. She gifted it to me for my home & classroom when I graduated… Go placidly amid the noise and the haste, and remember what peace there may be in silence. As far as possible, without surrender, be on good terms with all persons. Speak your truth quietly and clearly; and listen to others, even to the dull and the ignorant; they too have their story. Avoid loud and aggressive persons; they are vexatious to the spirit. If you compare yourself with others, you may become vain or bitter, for always there will be greater and lesser persons than yourself. Enjoy your achievements as well as your plans. Keep interested in your own career, however humble; it is a real possession in the changing fortunes of time. Exercise caution in your business affairs, for the world is full of trickery. I vigorously oppose your proposal to rescind the regulatory definition of “harm” under the Endangered Species Act. Habitat destruction is the main driver of species decline and the destruction of our ecosystems that reign havoc for future generations to repair. When Congress passed the Endangered Species Act, it explicitly recognized the importance of habitat in protecting and restoring endangered species. The definition of harm you seek to delete was upheld by the U.S. Supreme Court 30 years ago. If anything, the case for habitat protection under the ESA has grown even stronger since then, with mountains of scientific evidence linking habitat and species’ survival. This is clearly a corrupt plan to destroy our natural environmental ecosystems to pave the for big business to cause further laying uncheck ugliness and waste of our beautiful Public lands and parks that all living things enjoy. There is no rational reason to rescind this definition; rescission only serves as an invitation to timber, oil, mining and other extractive industries, as well as the government and individuals, to try to destroy habitat that endangered species need to live, eat, and raise their young. Common sense, science, and the ESA itself tells us that habitat destruction harms species. We all suffer the consequences when even one company or project can destroy habitat especially when a species disappears. This destruction of habitat and the species impacts our food and water supply, to industries ranging from pharmaceuticals to tourism, and to our cultural and spiritual values. This is unacceptable harm that we the people do not support.
