Today, the Supreme Court of Virginia issued a terrible decision that seeks to strip Virginians of their voice by overturning a fairly contested referendum on the Commonwealth's future. I do not believe in unilateral disarmament, nor do I believe in treating the rule of unfair law as a suicide pact. All across this country right now, the Republican Party is seeking to entrench themselves as a permanent majority, destroying democracy in pursuit of power. What the referendum offers may not be the cleanest solution, but it is a practical one. It is viable. And the people of Virginia support it. For these reasons and others, I urge the General Assembly and Governor Spanberger to ignore the Court's decision today and simply put the new map into effect regardless of what they have to say. And for my colleagues who disagree with this course of action, whatever your reason, know this: Voters will remember any act of cowardice you put on display right now, and they will hold us accountable for it. Whether you do so for the cause of righteousness or for the sake of your career, now is the time to show some backbone and proceed with redistricting. It ain't like Republicans will show us any mercy when it's their turn.

We remain committed to using every available legal, legislative, and civic tool to push back against this ruling and the damage it threatens to cause. We will continue organizing, advocating, and standing alongside the Virginians who refuse to accept injustice or silence in the face of attacks on their rights. History has shown that progress is rarely linear. Setbacks happen. But so does resistance. And we are prepared to meet this moment with determination, unity, and urgency. We call on community leaders, advocates, elected officials, and concerned Virginians across the Commonwealth to join us in demanding accountability and fighting for a Virginia that lives up to its promises of fairness, dignity, and equal protection for all.
