Sonoluminescence takes an ordinary pressure wave and focuses it into a microscopic flash. Ultrasound drives a trapped gas bubble through expansion and violent collapse. For a few picoseconds, it emits light. The final photon-making mechanism is still disputed.

The diagnostic blind spot is why this stays open — ~100nm in space, ~10ps in time, below optical/streak-camera resolution. Bremsstrahlung from heated plasma explains some observables, dynamic-Casimir/QED-vacuum models explain others. Nobody's caught the moment itself.
