The Labor Party condemns the assassination of Charlie Kirk. Political violence has no place in our democracy, regardless of ideological differences. While we strongly opposed Mr. Kirk's inflammatory and hateful rhetoric against LGBTQ+ individuals, women, and minority communities, violence is never the answer to harmful speech. Our democratic system depends on countering dangerous rhetoric through debate and the ballot box, not bullets. We stand firmly against all forms of violence - both the political violence that took Kirk's life today and the violence his words promoted against marginalized communities. Our thoughts are with Kirk's family and all those threatened by political extremism.
