Electronics repairing tip of the day! Plz repost! Friends, hot-air exists for a reason! If you want to be efficient & make short work of surface mount components, you MUST master hot air! Don't bother with hot/soldering tweezers. That's the worst tool that we have in toolbox! Have fun!

Finally getting a hot air was a game changer, had a couple of oops too hot on scrap boards. Once I got a feel for it though, game on.

too many existing started-and-nearly-finished projects to add another. need to clear some projects to justify the expense of a hot air station. otherwise it's another nice tool that gets underused

I now have a need to buy more tools that I need for 1 project and will never use again

I'd been hoping for a video from you about hot air. This seems to be everything I needed to know in under a minute. Thank you!

I've seen some videos where people have the SMD caps explode, is that just a matter of managing heat, is it a part of doing business, or is it a non-issue? Thoughts?

just wish the cheaply made ones didn't catch on fire

And stay away from these all in one stations. They do everything, but they aren't good at any of them.

Hey @voultar.bsky.social , is the heat gun on your Amazon page still the one you'd recommend? Looking to buy one.

I've seen some people add flux gel to component legs before removal with hot air, but I wasn't really sure as to why. It probably doesn't hurt anything, any thoughts on that?

I use it but hot air makes me so nervous. Definitely requires much more skill than it seems. Removing the og xbox Av port felt like an eternity 馃拃

I really need to pull an old motherboard or two I have laying around a do some practicing. I haven't had time to sit down and really get into it yet. 馃檪

Do you have a heat gun you recommend for this type of work? All the ones I have tried were of questionable quality

Narles 路 Nov 13

Is the heat gun on your Amazon page the one you recommend? Not sure when you added that and if your opinion has changed.

Why remove heat when you鈥檙e lifting the caps? Couldn鈥檛 the solder harden and you accidentally lift a pad that way?
