We all know smoking is bad for you — but pop culture seems to have decided it’s cool again. 🚬 The “pop girlies” like Sabrina Carpenter, Chappell Roan, and Charli XCX are partially to blame for the smoking renaissance we’re seeing.

Gen Z is teaching me how cool it is to get old

Just like falling vaccination rates, smoking rates are increasing at THE SAME TIME the last pre-vaccine generation has mostly died. WHO were also the last ‘pre-public health campaign to reduce smoking’ generation. Smoking kills. It takes 30 years, but it WILL kill you in a variety of horrible ways

foelkes see this when watching visual fare - which without a doubt has tobacco sponsors - and think it is cool to have a fag hanging from there lips - oh yeah - there is quite obviously vintner sponsors

Oh yeah!!! It’s always been cool!

About 30 years ago tobacco industry files showed companies paid for hundreds of placements in movies to make smoking look cool and the public was outraged and companies said they would stop in the global tobacco settlement. So maybe placement is back. Or maybe it’s performative transgressiveness.

Nicotine is addictive and vaping makes you look like a tool. For right or wrong, there is a certain aesthetic vapes cannot replicate. Picture a stressed detective chain smoking. In the 90s the industry tried to take cigs out of media. They could never replace the look so the efforts failed.
