If it won't spin up, try dropping it about 6 inches flat on the bottom surface. I've revived drives like this before. The axle grease can harden and this can break it loose.

Have a ton of zero鈥檇 drives like that with a green sticker and/or a tick and about a third of them are Deathstars. Will I ever have the need to use let alone be concerned about repurposing one of those models? No I don鈥檛 think there鈥檚 enough decades left in my life but I鈥檒l still hold on to 鈥榚m! 馃槀

I had a DeathStar back in the day, and I used one to build a computer for a family member. Both drives failed. What an embarrassment for IBM. Class Action settlement and everything.
