"So take my advice: don't get violent unless you *absolutely* have no other choice. You can choose to ignore that, but if you go out of control again, you're on your own. I *will* wash my hands of you and you can find your own way home. Do you understand?" He was seething so much that he had to get the cultural-dictionary to answer for him. "Permission to speak, sir?" When Patron nodded, it continued. "I am a war machine. I live only for war. Everything I do has a reason, is scrutinised, and is audited. While I can allow you access to this process and a *vote* when it happens, I must retain my prerogatives for independent action. To do otherwise would compromise my ability to function." "I hope you'll come to learn that being alive is only a war if you make it one. You *can* grow *beyond* it." Since it wasn't a question, RB refused to answer with any number of snide comments. They didn't know him. Didn't know what he had been through. How quaint, how _civilian_, it was of them to speak so highly of life, as though there were anything *but* war. When it was clear he wasn't going to answer, Patron sighed to break the silence. "I can definitely tell you're going to be the biggest pain in the ass I've ever had to deal with. Fine. You're relieved." RB's posture loosened, though only slightly.
