Made it to Ben Shahn's retrospective exhibit "On Non-Conformity" at the Jewish Museum in NYC. Very timely. And well-curated with historical documents, printed materials and some of his reference images. Closes Sunday, October 26. There's a book if you miss the show. "The Passion of Sacco and Vanzetti," 1931-1932.

Portraits in a zine. I’m loving this beautiful zine put out by @worcesterportraitexchange from their recent event at the Jean McDonough Arts Center (JMAC) in Worcester, Massachusetts. As I’ve been thinking about facial recognition systems and all the complexity of representing other people in their uniqueness, the form of exchanging portraits in a consensual hand-drawn human process still seems to hold out the possibility of a utopian solution to some of the power relationships that are a fraught part of visual representation. It’s not a perfect form, but it is so inspiring. Excellent! Kudos to the event hosts: Greg Hamilton, Meg Price, Matthew Burgos and Sarah Tompkins.
