Regarding the article "Climate pollution from inhalers has the impact of half a million cars per year, study finds" by Jen Christensen. The entire story is framed in a highly inappropriate manner which grotesquely distorts easily verifiable statistics to frame a lifesaving medication as a dangerous pollutant.

According to the World Health Organization, an estimated 262 million people worldwide suffer from asthma globally. 28 million of these are US citizens. The medication these 28 million citizens generate, according to the study cited in her article, produce planet warming pollution equivalent to five hundred thousand homes/vehicles annually.

Considering that there are an estimated 298 million cars in the United States, the estimated 500,000 cars worth of annual pollutant equals roughly .16 percent that of cars in the United States. An infinitesimal amount.

To put this another way, your average person who uses a metered inhaler produces roughly 1.7 percent more pollution than average.

By applying even the least amount of scrutiny to this article, one can see how grotesquely distorted Christensen's reported statistics are, especially when one compares the meager 500,000 cars worth of pollutant, equivalent to 2.3 million metric tons of carbon dioxide, to the estimated 500 million metric tons of carbon dioxide produced by data centers annually, and the 1.3 billion tons of carbon dioxide produced by cars in the United States annually.

To say this article is misleading would be wholly inadequate to encompass the scope of its malicious and selective distortion of easily verifiable facts. Christensen has done nothing less than attempt to inspire fear and uncertainty in her audience under the guise of environmental concern, turning a blind eye to the primary causes of pollution and global warming, and suggesting that the solution to such would be depriving millions of their lives, rather than investing in clean technologies and regulating polluting industries.
