Williamson County Democratic Party Condemns Bill Lee’s Special Session Power Grab to Redraw Tennessee’s Congressional Maps Williamson County, Tenn. — Tennessee Governor Bill Lee has called a special legislative session beginning Tuesday, May 5, to redraw the state’s congressional districts. The move follows the U.S. Supreme Court’s ruling in Louisiana v. Callais, which weakened key protections under Section 2 of the Voting Rights Act and makes it harder to challenge discriminatory maps. Statement from Williamson County Democratic Party Chair Ragan Grossman: “District lines are not abstract political boundaries. They determine who has power over public education, healthcare access, jobs, infrastructure, public safety, and the everyday needs of Williamson County residents. This is a racist and dangerous power grab. While people across our county are dealing with rising costs and real economic pressure, state Republicans are focused on rigging the system to protect themselves and appease Donald Trump. This is an attack on democracy, fair representation, and the voices of our communities. The Williamson County Democratic Party stands firmly against any effort to dilute voter power or undermine fair representation. Tennessee is not required to redistrict based on the Supreme Court’s ruling. They are CHOOSING to do it.
