Yesterday, the government released data showing 106 reported deaths of care experienced children and young people In England over the past year. Most were between 16 and 21. We feel grief for these young people, and we also feel angry about their deaths. Settle exists because too many young people are left without the help they need during the transition out of the childrenā€™s care system. Care-experienced young people deserve to leave care with more support around them, not less. We welcome the government's new review into care leaver deaths, led by Ashley John-Baptiste and Clare Chamberlain. Once they publish their report this summer, we will be watching closely to make sure the government acts on their recommendations and puts the right support in place to prevent future deaths. Because leaving care should never feel like no one cares. We know that this article will be distressing for care-experienced young people to read.
