Total population of the USA in 2025 = 347,275,807 Narcissists in the USA = 57,890,877 And research suggests that narcissism is significantly more prevalent among males who are top business leaders and political figures, compared to the general population. This was definitely true for my 2 narc marriages and divorces - one was a high level political consultant and the other ran an online business that donated to kid's cancer charity - while also committing fraud against it. 𝗜𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗎𝗲𝗻𝗲𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗌𝗻𝗮𝗹 𝗧𝗿𝗮𝘂𝗺𝗮 𝗔𝘀𝗜𝗲𝗰𝘁𝘀 𝗌𝗳 𝗡𝗮𝗿𝗰𝗶𝘀𝘀𝗶𝘀𝗺 Often carried through specific dysfunctional behaviors modeled and repeated over time, 𝘪𝘵 𝘚𝘰𝘊𝘎 𝘭𝘪𝘬𝘊 𝘵𝘩𝘪𝘎: 𝗚𝗿𝗮𝗻𝗱𝗜𝗮𝗿𝗲𝗻𝘁𝘀, shaped by survival-based environments (e.g., war, displacement, emotional repression), may have exhibited emotional unavailability, harsh discipline, denial of affection, or enforced silence around feelings. Their children become 𝗜𝗮𝗿𝗲𝗻𝘁𝘀 – and will frequently internalize these messages, leading to behaviors like people-pleasing, emotional codependency, lack of boundaries, or perfectionism. They may become emotionally enmeshed, neglectful, or even subtly controlling, confusing love with obligation or guilt. As a result, we, as daughters and 𝗺𝗌𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗿𝘀, grew up without a clear sense of self-worth or healthy relational boundaries. When unhealed, these patterns make us more likely to be drawn to narcissistic partners - individuals who mirror the emotional invalidation we experienced at home. In turn, our 𝗰𝗵𝗶𝗹𝗱𝗿𝗲𝗻 may be exposed to gaslighting, emotional instability, favoritism, or neglect - continuing the cycle of trauma until there is conscious intervention, education and healing. 𝗘𝗺𝗌𝘁𝗶𝗌𝗻𝗮𝗹 & 𝗩𝗲𝗿𝗯𝗮𝗹 - Non-physical behaviors such as threats, insults, constant monitoring or “checking in,” excessive texting, humiliation, intimidation, isolation, or stalking. 𝟯. 𝗊𝗲𝘅𝘂𝗮𝗹 - Any behavior that pressures or coerces someone to do something sexually that they don’t want to do. 𝟰. 𝗙𝗶𝗻𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗶𝗮𝗹 - Controlling access to finances, dictating spending habits, using money as a means of control, restricting employment or education 𝟱. 𝗗𝗶𝗎𝗶𝘁𝗮𝗹 - The use of technologies like texting and social media to bully, harass, stalk, or intimidate. Acknowledge that the emotional toll you've experienced was not your fault, and that healing is a process, not a race. Here are some common stages of healing you may find helpful to know: 1. Shock and Disbelief – Experiencing numbness or confusion as you begin to process the abuse. 2. Denial – Refusing to accept the reality of the abuse, rationalizing or minimizing it. 3. Anger – Feeling angry towards the abuser, oneself, or others involved in the abuse. 4. Bargaining – Attempting to fix the situation or hope that things will improve through change. 5. Depression – Feeling sad, hopeless and overwhelmed as the reality of the situation sets in. 6. Acceptance – Coming to terms with the end of the relationship and beginning to understand the necessity of healing. 7. Rebuilding – Focusing on shifting into self-care, boundary setting and regaining self-esteem. 8. Empowerment and Growth – Rebuilding confidence, learning from the experience, and growing stronger. Be gentle with yourself as you navigate the pain, knowing that it's okay to feel hurt, confused, or angry. Remember that you are resilient and capable of regaining your strength. With time, self-care, and support, you will move through this and emerge even stronger, with a deeper understanding of your own worth and boundaries. Protecting Yourself from Narcissistic Manipulation Narcissists often use tactics to provoke a reaction from their victims.
