I remember when ppl were side eyeing me for using the word
"ghetto" by saying "ghettotech" and creating ghettotech specific programming bc they didn't know the history & now everyone wants to Dj ghettotech Imao
DJ Psycho said it best... if you're uncomfortable w the word ghetto u probably shouldn't be saying it.. & th I think it's worth having a convo about how ppl are getting v comfortable playing ghettotech, ghetto house, ghetto beats when u didn't come from our communities & felt uncomfortable saying the word ghetto until ghettotech became popular.
To me the word ghetto has always meant ingenuity and resourcefulness. When it's used as an insult, it's used to mean lazy and lacking care, which is the exact opposite of the context that ghettotech comes from. Even if people didn't have shit we made something from nothing, and that's why it resonates globally in de industrialized societies. If that's not ur background, maybe think about that b4 u get out there n play ghettotech. Saw some British DJ post she was
"now offering" ghettotech bookings as if it was a new dish.
