$## 2024-11-30 response to MCP creator Simple REST APIs are both ubiquitous and familiar. What reasons might make sense for not making this sort of "transport" a first-class citizen? What are the reasons for not making "remote tools" available in the same way as ChatGPT actions (simple HTTP API request)? I can't imagine any reason why MCP might exist besides facilitating outside contributions to the Claude ecosystem, so why not make it as easy as pie? 🥧 What about the web interface? Why isn't it first-priority? Most frequently, the tools I use via ChatGPT are used from my phone, where completing the actions manually would be much higher friction. Gemini recently made their API "compatible" with OpenAI format. I hope Anthropic will consider the same. This whole fractured ecosystem thing, in terms of API design and "protocols," is, undoubtedly, not helping anyone or any of the companies causing the issue. Having to spend time to adapting to each companies "desire to be unique" prevents builders from jumping in. And at this point, considering user-base size, it makes little sense for builders to work with anything besides ChatGPT. So adding extra barriers / friction 👎$
