Me: Jesus was active towards the end of what we call "Second Temple Judaism" bc ancient Judaism centered around the temple in Jerusalem. the Babylonians destroyed the first temple and took the elite Jews back with them into exile in Babylon. only after the Persians conquered the Babylonians could the Jewish elite return and build the second temple.
By Jesus's time this wound up meaning there were a few different ways to be Jewish. The Sadduccees were worried about proper rituals to God being performed at the temple. They died out later after the Romans destroyed the second temple. The Pharisees focused on study of the Torah (scripture) and how to follow its laws in day to day life.
