It's actually simple: If you can feel pride in things you didn't personally take part in, then you can feel shame in things you didn't personally take part in. Absent any evidence, I don't think there was any fraud. But I mourn for what we have lost. I hope that I am wrong about what I think will follow, I really do. I worry about how this will embolden people to do harm to others, because they see this as justification for their treatment of The Other. I'm still going to do what I can to help those that want it, that need it. I'm going to try to find the good in people. I know I won't always succeed, either because I am mistaken about some individuals, or, especially in the short term, it's going to be really hard to see beyond the despair, disappointment, and anger.
