Personally I made my first confidence-boosting baby steps with Blender Cookie (now CGCookie) cgcookie.com way back in the day. Remember Blender has a built in Search if you can't find something. F3 by default, but I have it on Space because I use it that much. You can even assign keys from there. 🙂
