It had been years since she had known any attachment outside of the dredges of Rholdir's faith. Years since she had been touched or held. And she knew that Mariana only wanted to be warm. And she knew that she herself only wanted to cool down... and to pretend. But gods, if it didn't feel incredible to feel someone's skin against her own, to feel breath against her neck, and a beating heart against her own chest. She felt the familiar buzz of Belial's spell in the back of her mind, and she immediately pushed it out before she could hear what he had to say. Just a little bit longer, she thought. Rholdir, forgive me. Let me have this for a moment more.

She could feel the ragged rise and fall of Ilde’s chest as she reached her breasts and gave each one of them the attention they deserved. Self-doubt began to creep into the back of her mind and she worried that she wasn’t doing as well as she thought she was. She pulled away and looked up at Ilde through her lashes. “Is this okay?” she whispered, trying to keep the shyness out of her voice.

"You wouldn't do that in a classroom setting." "I would and I have," she quipped. "She's more than welcome to prove me wrong." "You're fucking insufferable," Mariana snapped. "I didn't get to where I am by being meek," Trystan replied so calmly that it made Mariana grind her teeth in frustration. The woman was driving her mad and she wanted nothing more than to get some kind of rise out of her, if only for the satisfaction of having broken her hard exterior. "Why are you helping me at all, then? If I'm so beneath you?" "I'm not helping you. I'm investing time into you to make sure you don't get me or my wife killed." Trystan swirled her hands around and produced a small flare of golden lightning, then held it aloft. "Now, if you don't get some kind of shield up in the next five seconds, I'm going to hit you with this. I'm done being gentle." "Trystan—" Mariana shouted incredulously. "The spark, Mariana! Focus!" Olynna shouted from her place beside Joyanna. Mariana slapped her hand to her chest and desperately tried to conjure the same feeling she had felt when she first tried to commune, tried to will it to spread across her body like a set of armor, but her heart was pounding and her mind was scattered— full of insults for Trystan more than anything else. When the lightning hit her-because of course it fucking hit her—her body siezed up and she collapsed to the ground shivering with pain.

The tempo of his words grew ever faster, and Ilde knew she was going to miss her chance to say what she needed to say. She could feel the eyes in the room on her back, could feel the kiss of the ritual against her skin, could feel the fear in her heart that it wouldn't work. Tears welled up and spilled over again, and Ilde felt the weight of the last couple of days hit her all at once. They had barely survived the tree. They would never make it without Joyanna. She would never make it without Joyanna. Ilde felt the softest touch, the slip of fingers against her palm as Madris stepped in close and took her hand. She squeezed it once wordlessly, oftering the silent encouragement that Ilde needed. "Joyanna," Ilde whispered reverently, her voice cracking beneath the pressure of her words. "I know I've never told you this. You know it's hard for me. But please, Jo. Please don't leave me. I need you."
WHY ARE YOU CRYING? IT'S JUST A SAPPHIC EPIC FANTASY...
After interviewing Ilde Torrun later in life, she revealed that the few travelers who arrived in Eldryss during the days of the curse also succumbed to its effects, though they had not been present when it arrived. In my own research since with Archmagus Tivalde, we have determined that rather than being tied to a specific object or objects, as curses usually are, this one must have exhibited a rare area of effect, which we've been able to recreate on smaller scales several times since -- for academic purposes, of course.
