I’m still working on it, but I have decided to lean further into avian traits for my dragons, due to their gizzards. (They swallow the crystals of Hollow Earth as gizzard stones.) When an older dragon is slain, these stones can be repurposed as crystal balls for communication and magical conduits. Wizards rely on crystal balls for communication, as prolonged mana use tends to fry most modern electronics over time.
A Specter’s ectoplasmic veil is faintly visible to the human eye. These spirits are typically bound to the location of their final moments, a phenomenon caused by the combination of intense emotions and death, both of which trigger a surge of DMT in the brain. This powerful release tethers parts of their consciousness to the material plane. Wraiths, also known as poltergeists, possess a stronger tether to the material plane, allowing them to shift their visibility at will and physically interact with their surroundings. They can manipulate objects, exert force, and manifest with greater tangibility, making their presence far more disruptive. Wizards, however, perceive both Specters and Wraiths at all times. This heightened awareness makes them uniquely vulnerable, as simply recognizing a Wraith can provoke an attack. Once spotted, a Wraith can bypass physical defenses and launch a direct assault on a wizard’s consciousness, unraveling their very essence until nothing remains.
