Coconut and JEPA are the interesting turn, dropping the word-by-word chain for reasoning in latent space. But what unsettles is not new thinking, it is thinking we can no longer read. So is the worry that it reasons, or that it stops narrating in a language we can audit?

the "separate Talker module" means they are literally attempting to implement a bicameral mind with this. Julian Jaynes' "bicameral mentality" anthropological theory is unfalsifiable but this sure isn't. you could implement this (or download and run the related R-JEPA) right now.
