A finely detailed, monochromatic charcoal drawing (24" x 36" on yellowed, cheap, non-archival newsprint paper, unmatted and unframed, with tattered edges) of a leaf from a pin oak tree, riddled with minute holes where bugs have eaten it away between it's veining. There is a dramatic play of light and shadow across the page, echoed by the sweeping lines of the leaf margins. Titled "Impermanence," referring to both the subject and the lack of preservation of the drawing itself, it asks the viewer to consider if the ephemeral in nature doesn't just increase the natural world's loveliness, but also implore us on a subconscious level to give greater effort to its preservation.
