And, for comparison, here are mentions of e.g. Mother Wolf vs Father Wolf over that same time period. There are ebbs and flows, yes, but there’s no point at which 95% of anthropomorphized wolves were one gender or the other. So, what changed? There is, I think, an interesting story to that.

The answer, which I think reflects America’s shifting relationship with the animal, is a dramatic falloff in stories about Mama Coyote, *specifically*. Coyote families were a regular feature of early 20th century stories. Thornton Burgess (Old Mother West Wind) wrote them on the regular :P
