discord post from user Chud Warden (this is me:) i just had a fucking breathtaking moment in FF7: I have materia set up on Vincent so that every time i use his standard attack, there's a small chance that he casts Death on the enemy and they instantly die, during a forced, inescapable encounter, all my party members are afflicted with Frog (this limits them to using weaker basic attacks and items), and i think "this is fine, Vincent can still proc instant death even if his frog slap only does 50 damage." then the enemy in the back row casts some shit that confuses Vincent, and immediately after that he tries to slap Aerith, *crits* but Cloud blocks it for 100 *but then immediately dies because instant death procs.* im menuing to the frog heal item with Aerith when frog Vincent's ATB fills again, and he slaps Aerith for 50 damage, procs instead death, and instantly kills her so now ive just got frog Vincent, he's confused and im thinking "at least he'll start attacking the enemies now," his ATB bar fills and this fucking guy *slaps himself for 67 damage, procs instant death, and i get a game over."
