Hey internet. I'm wyrm, and this is a rant. I'm... so tired. I love video games, I love making art, I love making music, I love digital creative/escapism stuff in general. But I feel like every single one of these communities has become toxic to the point of me not being able to participate because I'm immediately censored. And it's not like I want to go around spouting Nazi propaganda or touting Far Right Conspiracy Theories or anything. I'm not even one of those people who gets verbally abusive in voice chat. You wanna know what my terrible crime is in all these communities? All. The fucking. Rules. Seriously. No matter where I go, there's this mentality of "we all do things this way so you should too", with absolutely no room for experimentation or deviation. Every game that can be played as a Creative Mode Star Trek Simulator (my all-time favorite genre) ends up with almost the entire community playing it as a Hardcore Survival Mode NASA Simulator (a genre I hate with a burning passion.) I feel isolated and alone, because I can't seem to find any multiplayer communities that even ALLOW my playstyle, let alone people in those communities that match it. I don't enjoy grinding, dying repeatedly, or otherwise "struggling" to "overcome" an obstacle. I literally just want to fuck around and find out. I like messing with physics glitches, sequence breaking, boundary breaking, and basically doing anything I can to gain more control over the simulation. I've always loved watching YouTube channels where the creators just do a bunch of silly improv shit in multiplayer games for 20 minutes, but they're so far and few between that it feels like the community doesn't even exist. When other people play Space Engineers, they start in a drop pod in survival mode and mine for resources. They refine those resources, assemble them into components, and weld components to blocks to build them. Rinse and repeat for building a habitat, a miner, a big ship, an asteroid base, etc
