Rava says: If the righteous wish to do so, they can create a world, as it is stated: "But your iniquities have separated between you and your God." In other words, there is no distinction between God and a righteous person who has no sins, and just as God created the world, so can the righteous.
The Gemara answers: One who directs inquiries to the dead employs a different method to contact the dead, as it is taught in a baraita: "Or directs inquiries to the dead"; this is one who starves himself and goes and sleeps overnight in a graveyard so that a spirit of impurity should settle upon him, and he can listen to what the dead are saying.
With regard to the statement that the dead do not rise on Shabbat, the Gemara relates: The wicked Turnus Rufus, the Roman governor of Judea, asked this question of Rabbi Akiva as well. Turnus Rufus said to him: And what makes this day, Shabbat, different from other days? Rabbi Akiva said to him: And what makes this man, referring to his interlocutor, more distinguished than other men? Turnus Rufus said to him: I am more distinguished because my master the emperor wants it that way. Rabbi Akiva said to him: Shabbat too is unique because my Master wants it that way, as he has sanctified that day.

I'm reminded of this great story that happened some years ago on this big feature. The Studio did one of those awful screenings where they pull people off the street to comment on an unfinished film. EVERYONE said that they didn't trust the main character. Well, the studio went nuts trying to figure out how to make the lead more appealing. But the editor and the assistant knew exactly why:

CHAPTER ONE REFLECTIONS IN A DOUBLE BOURBON James Bond, with two double bourbons inside him, sat in the final departure lounge of Miami Airport and thought about life and death. Regret was unprofessional—worse, it was death-watch beetle in the soul. And yet there had been something curiously impressive about the death of the Mexican. It wasn't that he hadn't deserved to die. He was an evil man, a man they call in Mexico a capungo. A capungo is a bandit who will kill for as little as forty pesos, which is about twenty-five shillings—though probably he had been paid more to attempt the killing of Bond—and, from the look of him, he had been an instrument of pain and misery all his life. Yes, it had certainly been time for him to die; but when Bond had killed him, less than twenty-four hours before, life had gone out of the body so quickly, so utterly, that Bond had almost seen it come out of his mouth as it does, in the shape of a bird, in Haitian primitives. What an extraordinary difference there was between a body full of person and a body that was empty! Now there is someone, now there is no one. This had been a Mexican with a name and an address, an employment card and perhaps a driving licence. Then something had gone out of him, out of the envelope of flesh and cheap clothes, and had left him an empty paper bag waiting for the dustcart. And the difference, the thing that had gone out of the stinking Mexican bandit, was greater than all Mexico. She grabs me by the hand and leads me at a brisk march through the crowd to a table at the other end of the club, where two morose young men sit silently contemplating their drinks. “You see these two shitbags?” Evening, chaps. “My ex-husbands. I have a son with that one and a daughter with that one.” God, but I wish she’d let go of me. Neither of the fathers of her children look that far descended from the Vikings. Happily, they don’t seem to object to her, or her tirade, or me, much. Blur recorded much of their fifth, and best, album in a Reykjavik studio. Several other celebrities of various description have been spotted beneath the tables of the city’s nightspots. It’s been enough to prompt Albarn to worry out loud that Iceland will turn into “the new Ibiza,” but he shouldn’t concern himself overmuch - Iceland’s prices will continue to prove the most effective deterrent to package tour invasion a country could possibly muster, short of staging a civil war or Ebola epidemic. A modest round of drinks for four leaves little change from thirty quid. The McDonald’s takes credit cards.
