How long have we been drawing horses? Since thousands of years before they were domesticated. Even when we rarely hunted them, or interacted with them at all. Of the animals depicted in Lascaux Caves, sixty percent are horses. They’re drawn with confidence and skill. Even those distant artists saw the same things in horses that we do today- their grace, beauty, and strength. The bizarre contradiction of their proportions, their elegant and expressive body language. These drawings may be simple, but they’re made with observation and passion, and that is still all we need to draw a horse today.
