SUMMARY...Severe Thunderstorm Watch will likely be issued soon for portions of northeast Illinois, northern Indiana, and southwest Lower Michigan. DISCUSSION...Leading edge of strongly forced squall line is advancing steadily east across western/northern IL. While low-level moisture is somewhat lacking downstream, with upper 40s/lower 50s surface dew points, cooling/moistening midlevel profiles favor weak destabilization over the next few hours. Strong shear supports damaging winds, and perhaps a brief tornado, with this forced line of convection and a Severe Thunderstorm Watch appears warranted. ..Darrow/Smith.. 03/15/2026

Valid 102327Z - 110030Z The severe weather threat for Tornado Watch 32 continues. SUMMARY...An intense supercell over eastern Kankakee county IL is likely to persist along the warm front with a risk for very large hail and strong tornadoes this evening. A downstream tornado watch will also need to be issued into northern IN. DISCUSSION...An intense supercell over portions of eastern Kankakee county IL has shown signs of rapid organization over the last 30 minutes. Several recent reports of very large have been noted along with an intensifying low-level mesocyclone from radar imagery. The environment along the warm front from eastern IL into northern IN remains very favorable for intense supercells with moderate instability and ESRH 300-400 m2/s2. This is yielding effective STP values of 4-5. Given the isolated nature of the supercell, strongly backed low-level flow/shear, tornadoes (strong to intense) along with very large hail appear likely over the next hour or two. This should continue into northern IN, with the potential for additional storms to develop over the next couple of hours. Given the proximity to the eastern edge of Tornado Watch 32, a downstream watch over portions of IN will likely be needed in the next couple of hours.
SPC Mesoscale Discussion 0191 for Eastern Iowa, Northern Illinois, and Southwestern Lower Michigan. Probability of a new weather watch is 95%. Summary indicates scattered elevated supercells and bowing segments are likely north of an east-west warm front this evening. Threats include significant hail (2.00–3.50 inches), damaging wind gusts (65–80 mph), and a tornado risk with potential intensity of 85–115 mph. Strong destabilization (MLCAPE 2000-3000 J/kg) and deep-layer shear are supporting organized severe storms as they move across the boundary.
Updated SPC Categorical Outlook for March 10, 2026. A "Moderate Risk" (Level 4 of 5) shaded in red has been issued for a broad area including Northern Illinois and Northern Indiana. This is surrounded by an Enhanced Risk (orange) stretching from Missouri to Southern Michigan. A second Enhanced Risk remains over West Texas.

Valid 070037Z - 070230Z The severe weather threat for Severe Thunderstorm Watch 17 continues. SUMMARY...A squall line will continue east across northern Indiana and southern lower Michigan for the next couple of hours before gradually weakening. Damaging gusts remain the primary threat. DISCUSSION...Latest MRMS and GOES IR imagery continue to show new updraft development within a squall line draped from southern MI into northwest IN, and local radar imagery continues to show a few bowing segments within the line. Regional VWPs and latest RAP mesoanalysis continues to show a strongly sheared environment in place across the region with 0-3 km BWD values on the order of 30-40 knots and 40-50 knots winds within the lowest kilometer. This kinematic environment will continue to support the potential for organized/bowing segments within the line with an attendant threat for severe/damaging winds - especially with any meridionally-oriented segments. With time, a gradual weakening trend is expected as the squall line outpaces the axis of better surface-based buoyancy draped from western IL into northern IN. I'm a SENIOR. This country is going broke. How is it with you liberals that you cannot see this? Let me throw a little scenario at you. You and your spouse are sitting at the kitchen table one fine evening going through the bills. You notice that there hasn’t been enough money in the budget to pay the bills and buy all the necessities your family needs. You have two ways to solve the problem. The first way is to figure out how to get more money coming in. Whether this is asking for a raise, changing employers or getting a second job is up to you. The second way is to cut your hours back so your paychecks are smaller. If you’re thinking to yourself, “the second way would just make the problem worse!” then you are exactly right…but that’s what happens when the only thing the GOP wants to do is cut taxes. ONE HUNDRED PERCENT of our budgetary problem is tax cuts. Consider: When I was a kid the United States was building interstate freeways and sending people to the Moon. Neither one is even close to being cheap. But we didn’t have massive deficits then - because we had sufficient tax revenue coming in to pay for them. Reinstate Nixon’s tax rates, don’t go into this huge “we have to spend all this extra money!” shit we did after President Clinton balanced the budget, and this country won’t be going broke.
