So is this more of a manually/purposefully scheduled file history? I've been using the built in Windows one for a few years now. Has saved my butt occasionally.

Sort of, File History seems to require a second drive from what I can tell? But the idea is the same, yes, just manually scheduled. And it covers an entire drive letter.
