You're on your knees for five minutes. The Colonel doesn't have time for pleasantries today, so you work quickly. But you're well-practiced, and it's all it takes to send her over the edge, shuddering in her office chair as her breath comes out half-ragged. She composes herself again. "Excellent work, Pilot." There it is—the satisfaction that wells up inside of you. A conditioned response to stimuli. She's halfway out the door when she says it- "Sit." A conditioned response to stimuli. You drop to your knees in the middle of the office. The Colonel switches off the lights and closes the door behind her without another word. And you sit. And you wait. The taste of her is still on your tongue—the smell of her lingering like last night's perfume. And eventually, as your knees burn into numbness against the cheap carpet installed by the lowest bidder, she returns. "Again." A conditioned response to stimuli.

The pilot presses its body against yours and you can feel the heat through the thin skin of its flight suit. It kisses you, and you can taste the blood-taint—a remnant of Handler's missives written across the inside of its lips. It grabs your hair in its clenched fist and pulls hard, and the question of whether or not you really wanted this in the first place stops mattering. You open your mouth around the sides of the kiss and gasp for air. And then plunge down again, into the abyss.
Handler closes her grip tighter on the side of your neck, her thumb pressed against your trachea and her fingers clawing along the side of your neck, nails finding purchase in the taut skin and leaving little half-moon marks of blood in their wake. "Tell me what you did wrong." Said as evenly as she might tell you what she had for breakfast that morning. Her grip grows tighter and you feel something throb in your head. "I..." You struggle at the answer for a moment too long—the fingers close tighter. She pulls you up, stronger than she has any right to be. You're lifted like a marionette, your feet barely touching the ground. "Tell me what you did wrong, Pilot." Not a hint of emotion in the words, but the meaning is clear. You nod, and the anger threatens to burn its way out of you. She lets you back down and loosens her grip and you feel the edges of the flames on your tongue. But you hold it back—and you tell her.
She holds you inside her and you drop deeper, falling into the link as your heart races and the recycled air catches in your lungs. You see through her eyes, vision sharpened beyond what the human mind can fully process. Your heart is attuned to hers, beating with the same snare drum cadence as her autocannon as it spits death wrapped in 60mm packages at an abstraction a half a klick off. Killing isn't a real thing—it is the result of a neutral action. You see and you aim and you shoot. The shells kill. You are blessed with the purity that comes from detachment. And your Frame wraps around you like a cocoon—like a coffin waiting to close.
Pilot pro-tip: If you want to get forbidden information on your Frame, simply finger the subby junior engineer until she gives up her secrets! It's easy and will give you a sense of power and control over your life, just like Handler feels whenever she does anything!
