Book 2 thoughts: -these teens shooting at birds for fun suck 😡 -Tobias continues to be my favorite Animorph so far, best bird boi! -Rachel seems far more detail-focused than Jake, her descriptions are quite vivid -the shrew bit was disturbing already, but her nightmare made it even more so 😰 -Fluffer McKittyis a badass and deserves all the respect 🤘 -Mr. Chapman is complex for sure, agreeing to help the Yeerks but fighting to save his daughter -Poor Melissa, minus the alien stuff this is tragically real -also the but with Rachel getting nearly assaulted by the guy in a car was MEGA creepy, impressed that Applegate got such a realistic fear for women and girls in this paperback -I sense romance vibes for her and Tobias???

Plot Thoughts: -our main cast is very diverse and I loooove that, especially for 1996! -Elfangor is cool, and his ship feels like an homage to the Enterprise a bit? -Andalites are ALSO cool, top tier alien design (especially some of the fanart I found that pushes beyond the standard "bald blue centaur" for more anthro/non-humanoid upper halfs) -really like that the Hork-Bajir aren't mindless orc-standins to be guiltless cannon fodder for our heroes. They're victims of the Yeerks too, and deserve the same pity as the human Controllers. -The willing Taxons/humans suuuuuck though, as fascist collaborators always do. -all the family dynamics of the kids thus far are shockingly earnest and grounded (poor Tobias, and I thiiiiiink I recall what happened to Marco's mom 👀) -Tobias is a furry whose fursona is a hawk named Tobias (who is him) -Tobias is also 1000% not neurotypical, stroooong autism vibes from this bean -MacLeod Andrews is quickly becoming a favorite narrator, but having him do this AND the two Warriors books I've done so far made for a very confusing time when Tobias became a cat X3 -Poor Tom, totally forgot he's trapped in his own body 😰 -The Yeerk pools are deeeeply disturbing to this day for me. -All thr dialogue feels like things kids would ACTUALLY say/do, which is impressive. -on that note, this is probably the earliest series I read where the child protagonists are in ACTUAL peril, not just cartoonish "something bad could happen." The Animorphs aren't afraid of a vague bad guy threat, they're afraid to die. -Tobias unwillingly accomplished the furry dream of becoming your fursona IRL.
