He uses living wage laws as an example of things that are just an unknowable mystery, akin to angles dancing on the head of a pin! Some say they would help! Others say not! Who can say? Also, global pandemics! Unprovable and complex topics, just like the existence and nature of God. ::shrug emotji::

He should try living as a minimum wage migrant farm worker for a few months as an experiment to gather some empirical evidence. I hear the results from the experiment are eminently repeatable.

I don't want to make fun of Vance for reading The Chronicles of Narnia in a combat zone, or for his longing for an Aslan-like relationship with Christ, but I will point out that Vance's version of Christianity has turned out to pretty far afield from anything Lewis would recognize.

I like how he relies on Trump’s tic of believing that if he has only just learned of a fact it means that no one anywhere yet knew the fact. If you personally haven’t yet thought about this problem, no one has!

Is he saying there’s no such thing as “fact”?

Fun fact about Catholicism: the Catholicism-appropriate wage for work is not just a "living wage" but a "family wage." Straight from St. John Paul II

JFC some farmers believed pasteurization altered the taste of milk (some idiots still do) but the resulting improvement to public health more than outweighs their minority of concern. Just because *some people* have concerns isn't an acceptable reason to not try!!!

I'm no economist but I don't know how higher minimum wage equates to less work needing to be done. Like sure employers would try to find ways to automate, but people below the median spend 100% of their income so it's sure to create demand.

Here’s what we know: $7.50/ hr doesn’t pay rent anywhere
