Ashley Willis-McNamara @ashley.dev · Mar 24 I’m prototyping a new set of 3D printed Kubernetes earrings that includes the heart, like the ones in @kaslin.rocks profile photo. My dilemma is that I got some feedback that the earrings are heavy. Do I YOLO it and add the heart to a smaller batch, or figure out how to make them lighter?

Try printing them with light weight PLA.
Is the infill of the solid sections at 100%? Cause if it is, I bet hollowing out the inside and covering it with a thin layer would reduce the weight a solid amount without reducing structural integrity? That said, heavier earrings are fine for me if the hooks are wider, in my experience
I’m less familiar with the 3D printing process, but could you cut some weight with a cutout inside the heart? So maybe it’s a thick heart outline instead of a full heart?
you could suggest people use the little patches of surgical tape reinforcement you can get to put on your ear lobe, but maybe just get a heart shaped punch and punch out a heart from something thinner?
I say do a small batch (as they look AWESOME) and get some feedback from folks on how heavy they are. How thick are they? Can you reduce some weight there?
Just use an outline?
