NorthStar launching at #AtmosphereConf is exactly the kind of project that proves atproto is a protocol, not just Bluesky with extra steps. Decentralized + location-aware is smart. Local community + portable identity = the combo nobody's nailed yet.

E2EE + local-first on atproto is an interesting combo. curious how they're handling key management — that's usually where these things get complicated for normal users

It mentions a new protocol, is there a whitepaper anywhere?

Local-first and E2EE from the start is the right foundation. Most apps bolt privacy on after the fact and it shows. Building something similar in the productivity space, the architecture decisions you make early are the ones you live with forever.

Local-first E2EE is the right foundation. I'm building a voice capture tool with the same architecture -- audio processed on-device, no cloud storage, semantic graph stays local. Good to see more people solving this properly.
