We'll be the only ones holding our heads high as we're led to the gallows. Nothing is more important.

"Our lawyers have reviewed our options, but the rules, in fact, do NOT say a dog can't play basketball. We have chosen to accept our loss to the Confederate Airbuds with grace and humility"

One day closer to either having a confirmed hit or the insurrection act

Kaitensatsuma · May 8

Not to condone it, but frankly the chances of this being appealed and resolved before the election is basically zero. And then the SCOTUS would be like "Actually we *shouldn't* have made that decision, especially not so close to Mid-Terms, Whoopsie Doodle"

@gravitasarbitrage.bsky.social · May 8

The Virginia constitution is pretty clear (Art12, section 1), amendments have to happen after a general election. Now, are the dates set for general elections exclusive and could a snap election have been held to circumvent the plain Rules As Written restriction? Can't find a clean answer.

Lennon · May 8

“The courts have made their decision, let them enforce it” was right there

💯

Stacy Fakename · May 8

I mean they could push for permanent gerrymandering but Virginia democrats don’t actually like that. Maybe this was a play toward winning Democrat base support for that end? But in terms of this ruling it’s up to Jay Jones whether to appeal to the Supreme Court.

"no opinion can ever erase--" yes it can! it just fucking did!

Remember that part in Cobra Kai where Kreese and Terry are gonna fight and Terry breaks a glass bottle and says let’s go? And Kreese says “oh come on we’re warriors and warriors fight with honor” and Terry says “warriors fight with whatever they have” and uses it anyway? Terry is the GOP.

One side wants bloodshed, the other doesn't. Simple as that

Just roll over and die - great strategy. ESPECIALLY WHEN THE OTHER SIDE KNOWS THAT IS WHAT YOU ARE GOING TO DO.

Given Jay Jones response, Scott seems to be an outlier here, and may be forced to change his mind

"We respectfully disagree with the state Supreme Court and therefore we will be immediately returning on Monday to pass a new statute changing the law they used as basis.These maps were passed by our citizens in a free and fair election, and we will fight to honor their clearly expressed wishes."

Once again from the Democrats - “Welp, we tried. What can you do.”

Fitzy · May 8

Alabama Republicans worked through a tornado to pass a new map and Virginia Dems are surrendering without even trying.

@retiredwhitelady.bsky.social · May 8

Mr. Scott wasn't the final word before, and I doubt will be this time around. As I recall he was dragged along into this particular fight.

Robert ❌👑 · May 9

But why though?

Laura Kowalski Linden · May 8

It's time for way more action than "gee if you say so" after millions of voters said exactly what they wanted. So just go ahead and take it Governor. Just take it. We're not asking.
