Females. Females don’t develop wings, they remain pupae like. They glow and flash patterns that attract the males. All very cool.
How interesting, I did not know! There are fireflies in my garden, but I've never seen any of them (in any stage of their lives) close-up.

I knew about it, but I’ve never understood it. Seems to me that as a larva, this is a serious disadvantage and alerts predators. If it’s needed for coupling, a larva doesn’t need it, and it can only hurt, I would think.
