The narrative intrusion is intruding!
One trick (to still not overuse!) is this: when people are arguing, they absolutely will bring in facts the other person knows. Plus it's much more interesting dialogue than when people agree. "We support the king! He's the rightful ruler." "But his taxes have destroyed this family!" Etc.
