That's it - 🇪🇺President von der Leyen's 'surrender deal' is dead. The EU is complying with the terms of their surrender. The 🇪🇺Parliament has ratified the terms. It is the US which is breaking the terms of the deal with this new tariff threat. Appeasement has not worked.

Trump is pleased to announce that he is making life more expensive for Americans.

If they had any balls we would go after the US tech companies that are violating EU rules anyway. The only thing holding their stock market up insthe AI bubble. Just speed up the inevitable

I'm confused. Didn't the court set a 15% limit which could only continue after a year with congressional approval?

Appeasement never works. It would be best for the world to isolate the U.S. from itself as much as possible at this point. I understand Europe now receives most of Canada's aluminum now. That's a good start.

I’m a US citizen. I say tell the felon to pound sand.

It never does with bullies and liars.

Never try to appease the unappeasable. It never ends well. Some just have to learn the hard way.
Jon Potter · May 2
There must be a million movies and TV shows the lesson of which is "never give a bully what he wants", shame no politicians have ever seen any of them

When will these people learn to just call donOld out on his bullshit? He`s a dishonest, malevolent bully who needs to be slapped down, it ain`t rocket science folks.

EU has no hand to play because it is by design, a rules based institution and the US isn’t playing by any rules. No EU leader can unilaterally take any position, they must go through a process to arrive at a consensus. Oh! And they have no military to enforce their will. So they clutch papers.

The deal should be dead. But the EP had not ratified it yet? Didnt they send it (to the anger of national politicians) to a court evaluation of some sort, playing for time? Or was that done and ratification then happened? It may easily have slipped past me.

Appeasement doesn’t work with idiot narcissists especially when they have dementia. Just tell him to f*ck off
OCB1640 · May 2
@davekeating.substack.com - clearly you have the reading ability of a demented rock. Europe is giving America a very stiff finger, & America has *zero* clue how to deal with it.

Who would ha e thought! Time to stand up against the bully! Why are our European leaders in Brussels such cowards? If Trump want's to charge 25% tarifs let him do it, just charge digital service tax of 30% (but charge companys), stop exporting ASML EUV technology stating Security concerns! Done!

We cannot trust the USA!

I was initially surprised that so many countries bowed down to the tariffs, everyone knows that appeasement never works with bullies. The best the west can do with T now is ignore him until he goes away. Search for new markets for their products and move forward without USA.

It's called damage limitation. That's not a bad thing however you spin it.

That was to be expected. Agreements should only be made with partners whom one knows to be trustworthy. Anyone who thought or thought Trump was trustworthy hasn't understood anything and is out of touch with reality.

SCOTUS says no.

It's time for the European Union to put US Ambassador to Brussels Andrew Puzder on a flight back to Washington, DC. He can fly economy. The EU has more important items on its agenda than putting up with another tantrum from the senile, racist convicted felon cosplaying as American president.

Um, where are the "many automobile plants" being built? And who is building them?

The EU’s learning curve on Trump is as flat as a curve can get
Laurence Mee (Wyrm) · May 1
I wouldn't say that the trade deal was appeasement. There were enough benefits to the EU in it.
Callum Stewart · May 2
He's so thick he thinks increasing tariffs hurts the EU. It doesn't. He's just making it more expensive for himself. Dumbass.

We told you so.

As an American this does not surprise me.

"Pleased to announce". What a copper nanotube.

The pathetic spectacle of Europeans clinging to the terms of their surrender even as the US side flagrantly violates the deal has been hard to watch. We can't go on like this. It's time for Europe to drop the appeasement and say the deal is off.
